The Banner Racing Team adds Randy Tolsma to driver line-up Sahlens 6-Hour of the Glen Rolex Grand Am race.
Watkins Glen, New York (June 2nd, 2006): Leighton Reese announced that he and Tim Gaffney, of Birmingham Michigan, will be joined by NASCAR Craftsman Truck veteran Randy Tolsma as the trio will bring the Banner Engineering/Rev It Up Presented by Chevrolet Corvette into Rolex Grand-Am racing action for Saturday’s Sahlens 6 Hours of the Glen Watkins Glen New York.
Tolsma, of Huntersville North Carolina, is best known for his years racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series where he scored 2 wins, 2 pole positions and 46 top ten finishes in 107 starts. Included in that resume are several starts in the Truck series at Watkins Glen where Randy’s best finishes were a 9th in 1998 and a 10th in 2000.
The Banner Racing team will be starting well back on the grid as the qualifying sessions have been cancelled due to a court injunction which prohibited the Prototype cars from practicing on Thursday. There were also concerns about the weather as the North East has been plagued by almost continual rain for the past month.
This will be the first visit to Watkins Glen since the Trans-Am Series competed here in 1998 but Leighton didn’t think that experience would be a problem as he has competed in several 24 Hour Firehawk races here in the past including a winning effort with John Heinricy and Mitch Wright.
“I’m excited about going back to the Glen and racing in the Sahlens 6 Hour,” Reese said of the upcoming race. “Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and put in some laps and record a strong finish.
“The Watkins Glen course is kind of a power track and a lot of the turns hare high speed sweeping turns which should work well for our Banner Engineering Corvette.”
The Banner Racing Team will be hosting approximately 75 guests at this race which will include employees, customers and guests of the from the KOM Lamb Company, the Industrial Control Specialists from Amherst New York with offices in Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, Binghamton, Syracuse and Erie PA.
